The West of England Combined Authority is working with local councils to improve transport across our region.

We want to provide better and more sustainable transport to help people move around more easily, lower carbon emissions and improve the environment we live in. To help tackle the climate emergency we are encouraging people to leave their cars at home. By reducing congestion and increasing accessibility we can also support local economies and improve people’s health and quality of life.

We are working on projects to improve bus services and walking and cycling opportunities, as part of our vision for a greener, better connected transport network in the West of England. These include:

Yate, Chipping Sodbury and Bristol - A432/A4174

Improving walking, cycling and public transport for people travelling the A432 and A4174 between Yate / Chipping Sodbury and Bristol.

Bristol to Bath Corridor

Improvements on A4 Bristol to Bath. Better bus services and enabling more cycling and walking.

Improving walking, cycling and public transport infrastructure along the A37/A4108 corridor.

Improving travel between Midsomer Norton, Radstock, Westfield and Bath via the A367 and Bristol via the A37; through better bus services and enabling more walking and cycling.

Thornbury, A38 & Bradley Stoke Way

Improving conditions for people walking, cycling and travelling by bus along the Thornbury, A38 and Bradley Stoke Way corridor.

We will soon provide information for the following corridors:

  • A432/A4174 Corridor
  • Bristol City Centre

Many of these projects have evolved from opportunities identified in our Joint Local Transport Plan 4.

The Joint Local Transport Plan 4 – led by the West of England Combined Authority, working with Bath & North East Somerset, Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire councils – was published in March 2020. It sets out the vision for transport in the region up to 2036 and shows how we aim to achieve a well-connected, sustainable transport network that works for residents.

Mass transit is an important part of the transport vision for the region, alongside the significant investment in bus, cycling and walking routes outlined above.
